Beautiful, until you use it! I have had this cooktop for about a year and though it was gorgeous when new it has since proven to be a very poor choice. I upgraded from my 30 year old electric coil stove top which served to cook many batches of homemade jam and soups and stews, to this gorgeous black mirror finish top. While the top cooks well it is impossible to keep clean, scratches easily and is discoloring at the burners! Water, food or anything that spills over or drips on the top becomes burned on and usually requires the baking soda and vinegar treatment and often a razor blade scrapping to remove. Reading several sites about these cooktops I found warnings about spilling sugary substances on the top, but in my experience anything can become a problem. I ridded myself of my old pans, buying a rounded edge pan with smooth bottom to minimize scratching, but I seem to get a new scratch every time I use this top. Any moisture on the bottom of the pot discolors the top, if the spoon you are using drips you have a new burned substance to scrape off.
I think this cooktop has significant drawbacks and I can't wait to get rid of it. Spending 30 minutes trying to clean the top after each use is not my idea of an upgrade. My friend has a ten year old GE with their grey flecked top that is miles ahead of this top for ease of use and maintenance.
Okay, buy it if you wish, I tried to tell ya! I wish someone had told me!
Why Electric Ranges?
An electric range is a great way to go when you consider purchasing cost and all around safety of a new stove and oven. Most home kitchens are already equipped for electric ranges, which makes them easy to install. Another reason that freedstanding electric ranges are so great is that they are safer to have around your children because there are no open flames to burn them.Electric Ranges: What to Look For
When searching for a new electric range, take a look at our electric ranges learning center articles to learn more about all of the available features and compare best ranges with our best electric range comparisons and reviews. Consider these features before making your purchase. One of the considerations that should be high on your list is whether you would like to purchase an electric range that is self-cleaning or not. A self-cleaning range such as the Whirlpool RF233LXTQ. Kenmore 9021 and Frigidaire FFEF3015LW offers a feature that uses high-temperature heat to clean baked-on food items. This is preferable if you do not like using chemicals to clean up these messes.Another important consideration should be the Stove Top features, such as the number of eight-inch and six-inch burners the range has. Eight-inch burners are not only better for larger pans, but they also provide higher wattage that will decrease your cooking time. However, six-inch burners are better for smaller pans. Because they use less wattage, they are also better for simmering items such as different sauces. If you are an interested baker or cook, you may want to consider an electric range with an oven window. This allows you to view the progress of your cooking without having to open the oven door. Also, take into consideration the rest of the Oven Features available on different models.
An important feature to consider when purchasing an electric range is how you will use it. If you are a single person or a married couple that is just starting out, you will be less likely to need more oven space and larger burners. However, if you are cooking for a family, you will need to have enough oven space and large enough burners to accommodate larger pans. Those who prefer to avoid harsh cleaning agents may prefer a self-cleaning oven.
